Why Missouri Feels Like Home to Me
There’s something special about Missouri that’s hard to explain unless you’ve truly experienced it. Maybe it’s the rolling countryside, the small-town charm, the changing seasons, or the way neighbors still wave when they pass by. For me, Missouri has never just been a place to live — it’s a feeling. It’s home.
I grew up in the country in southern Warren County, and some of my favorite memories were made there. Summers felt endless back then. We spent long days playing in creeks, searching for rocks, and catching minnows and crawdads before releasing them back into the water and heading home tired and happy at the end of the day. Life felt simpler then, and looking back, those moments shaped so much of what “home” means to me.

I was one of six siblings, and our home was always full of life. Add in cousins, grandparents, aunts, and uncles who gathered regularly, and there was rarely a quiet moment — but I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything. There was always laughter, food on the table, stories being shared, and people who genuinely cared for one another.

Some of my most cherished memories were made during family gatherings at the old farmhouse on our property. It wasn’t the house we lived in — it was an old, dilapidated farmhouse that somehow became the center of so many family memories. We used it as a gathering place and guest house, and to us, it was perfect.
The yard would come alive with ball games, laughter, and cousins running barefoot through the grass. Our Fourth of July celebrations were especially memorable — filled with family, homemade food, music, and the kind of laughter that carried late into the evening. My aunt and uncle would play guitar and banjo while everyone gathered around visiting, dancing, and simply enjoying being together. One of my favorite treasures is an old home movie of my grandparents dancing together while children played nearby in the fading summer light. As dusk settled in, we’d chase lightning bugs across the yard while waiting for the fireworks to begin.

Easter gatherings were just as special, with huge Easter egg hunts spread across the farmhouse yard while adults visited from the porch and kids raced through the grass with overflowing baskets.
My great aunts would sometimes spend weekends with us, and their card games often lasted late into the night. More than once, those evenings ended with some of them sleeping right on the kitchen table in the old farmhouse because they were afraid of mice in the bedrooms. At the time it seemed completely normal, and now it’s one of those family stories that still makes me laugh every time I think about it.
When I think about home, I think about those moments.
Later, my husband and I were blessed to raise our two girls in Franklin County, where we built a home centered around family in many of the same ways. Life was busy in the best possible way — regular dinners around the table, evenings spent at ball games, recitals, scout meetings, and making memories together as a family. Those simple everyday moments became the moments that mattered most.
Growing up, home was never about having the fanciest house or perfect things. It was about feeling safe, loved, connected, and surrounded by people who mattered most. That feeling stayed with me into adulthood, and it’s a big part of why I care so deeply about helping others find a place they can truly call home.
As someone who now helps families buy and sell homes throughout Missouri, I’ve realized people aren’t just searching for a house. They’re searching for comfort, connection, and a place where life simply feels right. That’s what Missouri has always represented to me.
I love that Missouri offers a little bit of everything — peaceful rural landscapes, welcoming small towns, growing communities, beautiful parks, lakes, wineries, and cities full of opportunity. Whether someone dreams of acreage in the country, a cozy farmhouse, a family neighborhood, or a quiet place to retire, Missouri has a way of making people feel grounded and welcomed.

But more than the scenery, it’s the people who make this state feel like home.
Missourians are hardworking, genuine, and caring. There’s still a strong sense of community here. People show up for one another. They support local businesses, celebrate traditions, and build lives centered around family and connection. In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, Missouri still holds onto the values that make life meaningful.
That’s one of the reasons I love real estate so much. I get to help people during some of the biggest moments of their lives. Whether it’s a first-time buyer finding “the one,” a growing family needing more space, or someone downsizing into a simpler season of life, every move represents a new chapter. Being trusted to guide people through that journey is something I never take for granted.
To me, helping Missouri feel like home means more than helping someone buy property. It means listening to their story, understanding what matters most to them, and helping them find a place where memories will be made for years to come.
Home isn’t about perfection. It’s about the feeling you get when you walk through the door — familiar roads, warm kitchens, front porch conversations, and knowing you belong somewhere.
That’s why Missouri feels like home to me.
And if you’re searching for a place to call home too, I’d be honored to help you find it.
